You must be able to prove that you are a BC resident with a Birth Certificate, Citizenship Card, Permanent Residency Card, Care Card, Landed Immigrant Papers, Canadian Passport or Study/Work Permit/Visa.
What levels do the courses cover?
Beginner, Intermediate, or just a refresher.

Are there exams required?
Yes, there are exams, but they are a great way to see for yourself how you are doing. If you aren't doing the course for credits, that's ok. It's a nice way to assist the learning process. There isn't much in the way of exams, and they can be done at your leisure.
Who can participate in completing these music courses?
You may or may not require credits but these courses do grant 4 credits towards High School graduation upon completion. Thus, they are full courses including exams and teacher support if required. If you don’t care about credits, we still need you to do a minimal amount of exams. They are a good way for you to monitor your progress and allow us to meet course requirements.
These courses are entirely online and can be completed through at your own leisure. Students have up to one full year to complete a course. Students can register 12 months of the year.
South Central Interior Distance Education School (SCIDES) supports students of all ages with secondary paper and online supported courses. Our students are entitled to take courses FREE of charge provided they are one of the following:
- Canadian citizen currently residing in B.C.
- Permanent Resident of B.C.
- Landed immigrant currently residing in B.C
- Non-graduated and graduated students
- Adults
The exams for the courses are as follows:
- In the course there is a Learning Outcomes Module that is copy/pasted by you into an email and the answers filled in. Again, it is fairly short.
- Once the ‘midterm exam’ is sent in, which is the Learning Outcomes assignment, the Final exam is sent to you. This is a multiple-choice exam and a brief performance exam. The grade from this doesn’t really matter though unless you are taking the course for specific credits towards high school graduation.
- Students going through the course have technical support given via email. The courses are so well designed that seldom is technical support called for, but it is available with quick replies when needed.
